<p>Was absolutely not available with bitmaps. If I only used 2 or 16 colors (same as my sprites) on a backdrop and saved it as a monochrome or 16 color bitmap, it wouldn't import; 256 color bitmaps containing only one or two colors wasted a lot of space on my 2008 PC.</p>
<p><em>NOW</em> there's no shortage of room and if I was worried I could just save them as PNG instead, but that absolutely wasn't supported.</p>
