<p>I remember complaining about this since in one game I planned on explicitly having characters counterattack direct damage while stunned with a battle caption letting players know stun had just been canceled by the attack. Long stun timers limited by the fact that direct damage breaks them out of it immediately - stun being more a chance to flee/buff/debuff while the enemy's incapacitated.</p>
<p>And since counterattacks would also be my primary method of implementing "Enemy is spiky/on fire so touching them is bad news", such counterattacks should definitely still work while the target is asleep.</p>
