I could've sworn I reported something like this years ago, but my case was more specific: Pushable NPCs set to Touch activation. I had one of these as a sort of puzzle boss in a joke game (boss activates when you touch/talk to him and is standing on top of the stairs down, doesn't vanish when defeated; solution is to walk into him, pushing him away as you activate his battle textbox but making him vacate the stairs down space). This was broken by the completely aesthetic "bugfix" of making activated NPCs walk up to the user when activated if they happened to be moving away at the same time.

It's not like speech becomes completely inaudible with 3-5 extra feet of space between conversants, and with the recent trend of extra-wide walkabouts having to literally overlap with people you talk to feels even sillier.
