unlump no longer loads .gen as a sanity check; remove unused & unneeded code

I don't think the .gen sanity check was useful. It was skipped if browse.txt
was missing anyway
And there is unlump --recover (though it doesn't notice missing lumps).

Also minor fixes or improvements to comments and verbose output
