If an attack has an item cost, when an *enemy* uses that attack, it subtracts that item from the *player* inventory. (Furthermore, the enemy is able to use the attack regardless of whether the item exists in the player inventory anyways.)

Since enemies don't have their own unique inventory, I suspect that the item cost is supposed to be ignored for them.


*Side note:*

As a feature, I think it would be neat to have the option of putting a "number of uses per battle" on individual hero attack slots. This would create a cleaner way of limiting the number of times an attack can be used if other methods (such as item restocking via after-combat script or FF1 style) don't quite do the job. In custome.exe, it would fit very nicely into the Hero Spell Lists window that pops up when you select an individual spell slot, right next to the "Learned at level: X", field. In battle, code similar to that used for FF1 style can regulate the attack in addition to whatever other costs it has.
