He also once mentioned game.exe CPU usage was high while it was stuck.
And that gfx_sdl or gfx_directx made no difference.
-I don't think the "can't communicate with game.exe" error means this is the same as that completely different bug where that happens randomly, because in that case game.exe does not get stuck and fail to create a window.

** [bugs:#2033] Crash/freeze when quitting Test Game, and Custom may crash/freeze too**

**Status:** open
**Milestone:** OHRRPGCE
**Labels:** crash freeze test game
**Created:** Tue Aug 28, 2018 06:19 AM UTC by TeeEmCee

A number of people have reported that rarely when quitting a game launched with Test Game, the game freezes (most reports) or crashes (they might just mean "This program has become unresponsive...") and also that it may cause Custom to freeze/crash too.
As far as I know, all reports are from Windows users.
Reports are with etheldreme or fufluns nightlies, but there are no relevant changes to the code since etheldreme

Surlaw reported:
> I just got a crash when I tried to exit a game that I was running through Custom's Test function
> I didn't have a g_debug.txt file in my directory, only that archive one.
g_debug.txt was missing, so game.exe had already deleted it.

-----

MorpheusKitami said that once the program froze completely when he tried to quit (using the close button on the window frame).

-----

SwordPlay reported:
> More often, Test Game hangs, stops responding, and doesn't let me close CUSTOM. I'm not really sure why.
> SwordPlay: [Test Game] hangs rarely. Less than 1% of the time
> SwordPlay: Test Game becomes unresponsive and has to be killed manually.
> SwordPlay: Once or twice I went back to editing in CUSTOM without problems. Other times it seemed to [freeze] CUSTOM.
> SwordPlay: I can't remember properly. But I closed CUSTOM's process and Test Game's process was still hanging.
> SwordPlay: sometimes I use Test Game and it crashes, and it also crashes CUSTOM. rarely.

He said that he was using alt-F4 to quit.

MasterK repeatedly had a problem, which might be related, where g_debug.txt became locked by Windows and new instances of game.exe couldn't be run. My guess is that game.exe froze when it tred to open and archive the existing g_debug.txt. g_debug.txt was blank.
The first time he reported this problem, it was after his computer crashed, and thereafter he noticed it happened after every time Game quit with a fatal error (a delete_ScriptData error, which has been fixed since). Could possibly have been some kind of filesystem corruption on his computer.
> Master K: [...] when I exit out of the game.exe produced by test game [g_debug.txt] gets left behind and then custom.exe will refuse to open another game.exe

He also once mentioned game.exe CPU usage was high while it was stuck.
And that gfx_sdl or gfx_directx made no difference.
I don't think the "can't communicate with game.exe" error means this is the same as that completely different bug where that happens randomly, because that doesn't involve game.exe getting stuck

Also, related, one report on Linux about Game crashing (reason unspecified) also causing Custom to:
> slime: OHRRPGCE-GAME crashed and that prevented me from saving and really froze up ohrrpgce custom too because of it and i had to force quit it and now whenever i try to open my project it thinks it's already open and won't let me open it TwT
> slime: oh wait i got it
> slime: just as i was saving too haha
> slime: I was save quitting and i forgot i had test game open
