Yes, it was just a misunderstanding of the API.

I finally finished setting up my VM just a few days ago so that I can
compile gfx_directx.dll. I'll also check that the instructions on the wiki
for compiling gfx_directx.dll are complete (I actually just remembered
about them this instant; I worked it out from scratch). They're probably
correct, so you can look there.

BTW: what about splitting <description> blocks over multiple lines?
