well, I got the program to work correctly now and the problem was with the 
chr() function.  I know that its a rare instance the this ohrgfx wouldn't save 4 
bit graphics correctly, I guess it was one of those machines, but now that I 
save graphics with arrays, that solved the problem.

also mike's formula works fine, so I used it.  don't know when I am going to 
upgrade the ohrgfx, but I will some day.
